Ryanair's one item of cabin baggage restriction

"Strictly one item of cabin baggage is permitted per passenger (excluding infants) weighing up to 10kg with maximum dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 20cm (your handbag, briefcase, laptop, shop purchases, camera etc. must be carried in your 1 permitted piece of cabin baggage). http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=bag&quest=cabinbaggageallowance

If you arrive at the boarding gate with more than one item of cabin baggage or if the item exceeds the maximum permitted dimensions or weight we reserve the right to cancel your reservation without refund and to deny you boarding"

A bit harsh isn't it?
I can imagine them saying "sorry mate, you brought too much stuff, you're not flying today!"

This is great for them, because low cost companies usually operate by overbooking (booking more tickets than seats) expecting a certain percentage of people to miss their plane. Of course sometimes their prediction fails and they have to reimburse someone. This way, if they need an extra seat they just deny boarding to the unlucky bastard who bought stuff in the duty free shop. Great management decision!

That's the way to go Ryanair, with this measure you're surely going to become #1 in client satisfaction (sarcasm)!
